Community needs assessment has been a continued process that started long before the approval of the No Community Left Behind Project.
A systematic attempt at assessing Banff community’s needs and safety and crime-related perceptions was made in July. A summary of the finding was presented at the first Steering Committee Meeting on August 03, 2005.
After many individual encounters with the community members, a community meeting was held on September 10, 2005. Findings and recommended activities out of this meeting were shared with all Steering Committee members. Separate meetings were held with the Community House and staff of Youth Services Bureau during this time to crystallize the ideas and proposed measure to address the problems.
For further clarity, the community-identified activities were put in a tabular format along with the proposed activities for the respective four main components of No Community Left Project for a discussion in September 20th Steering Committee Meeting.
The planning phase began with the approval of the identified activities by the Steering Community. A tentative work plan was prepared in consultation with the Community House on September 27 and shared with the TA members on September 28, 2005. Further individual meetings with community members took place on September 30. The work plan was shared with the Community House, Youth Service Bureau staff and available Tenants’ Association members on October 05, 2005 to further fine tune it.
The objective of repeated meetings with the community is to ensure their participation and consolidate their sense of ownership. For that purpose, the plan will be shared with other community members in a Lunch and Chat session on October 17 in order to finalize it in consultation and involvement of as many community members as possible.
In the meanwhile, Youth Council will be meeting on October 12, 2005 and discuss possible activities of getting other youth involved and doing youth mobilization for presenting a better image of the community. The activities the Youth Council Identify would be discussed in a final meeting with the Community House and YSB before the next Steering Committee meeting on October 25, 2005.
Activity Plan
Four major components of the project are Social Mobilization, Prevention and Empowerment,
Neighborhood Restoration and Law Enforcement. The following work plan reflect activities
